The hierarchy of the Agona Swedru branch of the   Church of Christ and 20 other store operators, have been summoned to appear before the Swedruman Council of Chiefs for their refusal to participate in the National Sanitation Exercise last  Saturday.

       Nana Kwame Donkoh the second, Chairman of the Sanitation Committee of the Swedruman Council of Chiefs made this known to the press after the five-hour clean-up exercise at Agona Swedru.

        The programme was the eighth edition of the National Sanitation Day introduced by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

        Nana Donkoh who is also the Gyasehene of of Swedruman Council of Chiefs,  told the press that Church of Christ and others were invited by letters by the Agona West Municipal National Sanitation Committee, but they deliberately refused to take part.

          He said the store operators closed their shops and chose to stay at home for others to clean gutters in front of their stores.

           Nana Donkoh said the bye-laws of the  Council  would be applied against those who failed to show up.

             He appealed to  residents of Agona Swedru and the surrounding  towns not to shirk their responsibility to tidy their surroundings.

           The Gyasehene said the Chiefs of Agona Swedru would not like to witness the 2010 flood disaster which destroyed properties worth millions of Cedis.

            Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Dawood, Agona West NADMO Coordinator,  appealed to the residents to report to NDAMO about buildings that posed danger to life and property.

            Mr George Freeman, Agona West Municipal Environmental Chief called for attitudinal by the people to avert flooding and the outbreak of diseases.

             He said the national sanitation day should be a concern for all.

             Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE),  reiterated the call on Ghanaians not to see the exercise as a political decision by the government under President John Mahama.

              He commended Ghana National Fire Service, Prison Service, NADMO, Zoomlion and Miami executive Club at Swedru Yarewa Zongo,  for their massive support for the exercise.
