Demo Hits Afram Plains South DCE

Disenchanted members and supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Afram Plains South Constituency of the Eastern Region on Tuesday staged a massive demonstration against the District Chief Executive, Ibrahim Isaaka, accusing him of mismanaging the assembly’s funds.

The over 500 angry youth in red bands and holding placards with numerous inscriptions, chanted war songs with the party’s constituency organiser, John Tsatsu, leading the protest march. They went through the principal streets of Tease, the district capital, to register their disappointment in the DCE and called on President Mahama to remove him from office immediately.

Addressing the media, John Tsatsu indicated that since 2012 when he assumed duty at the new assembly,  the DCE had not been able to account for over GH¢4,489,580.00 which was sent by the central government meant for developmental projects in the area.

The constituency organiser claimed that the district could not boast of any single project, accusing Ibrahim Isaaka, the Coordinating Director and the District Finance Officer of pocketing the assembly’s common fund, while there are lots of communities which lack schools, CHIPs compounds, toilet facilities and markets.

According to Mr John Tsatsu, the assembly had used an amount of GH¢78,300.00 to renovate two bedrooms for the District Finance Officer. The youth have challenged the DCE to come out and explain the basis for using such a colossal sum of money on the renovation of   accommodation alone.

He further alleged that the DCE had misapplied funds that were meant to improve the lot of persons with disabilities in the district.

The NDC constituency organiser hinted that Mr Issaka had managed to borrow GH¢170,000.00 from a company called Vision Sport, without informing the assembly what that money was used for. John Tsatsu revealed further that deductions were being made from the assembly’s kitty to pay back the debt.

Some of the youth who spoke to DAILY GUIDE threatened to cause violence if the president failed to sack the DCE, the Coordinating Director and the District Finance Officer.
