A 40-year-old woman, Ms Ruth Fosuwaa, yesterday told the Cape Coast Circuit Court that she could not be held liable for the alleged forgery of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results slips and placement forms of her daughters.

The woman, who claimed she is an illiterate, said she left school at Primary Two and so she could not read nor write to be able to manipulate the said documents.

The middle-aged woman, who was visibly worried and dejected, pleaded not guilty to the charge of forgery.

The Presiding Judge, Sedina Agbemeka, adjourned proceedings to July 29, 2015.

Fosuwaa was in court to answer charges of forgery of her twin daughters’ BECE results slips and placement forms to gain admission to Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast.

The girls had gone to the school, in the company of their mother, with the intention to seek admission, but luck eluded them when the school authorities realised that the results slips they presented were fake.

Modus operandi
The students presented the results slips with nine grade ones and the raw scores of 528 and 511.

Fake slips
The raw scores aroused the suspicion of the school authorities because the national best score was 521, an indication that the girl with the 528 score had scored higher than the national best score.

Fosuwaa is alleged to have informed the school authorities that her daughters were reporting late for school because her husband had travelled out of the country.

QR Code
When the results slips and placement forms were referred to the ICT Department of the school, it was detected, with the aid of the QR Code, that the codes on the slips did not match that of the school.

It was also detected that the girls originally had aggregates 30 and 34 and had chosen Home Economics as their preferred course.

It was at that point that the authorities of the school called in the police, who, after investigations, arraigned the accused person.
