The fate of opposition New Patriotic Party parliamentary members for 2016 will be decided on June 13, 2015 with fear of some incucmbent members losing their seats to newcomers.

The “Mugabe’s” of the NPP MP’s must ‘fight’ for their seats or risk being kicked out from the throne like how Gen Buhari did to Jonathan Goodluck in Nigeria.

Notwithstanding the privileges these lawmakers enjoy from society, some are no more interested in seeking for re-election – probably the august house [Parliament] is too demanding.

Six [6] of the NPP’s incumbent members of Parliament [MPs] would not be on the ballot paper for the upcoming primaries.

Peacefmonline.com inquiry fingered Hon. Papa Owusu-Ankomah, MP for Sekondi, Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, MP for Asuogyamang and, Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, MP for Okaikwei North as members not seeking reelection - Mr. Peter Wiafe Peprah, MP for Abetifi David Oppong Kusi, MP for Ofoase/Ayirebi and Ofosu Asamoah, MP for Kade have also decided to opt out.

Reasons for their withdrawal are uncertain but some exit was due to health issues and personal matters.

Hon. Papa Owusu-Ankomah – it is believed prefers bowing out from Parliament in a more honorable way than to lose the primaries or the general elections in 2016. He is gradually fading out having rule the constituency for 19 years.

In 1996, Papa Owusu Ankomah obtained 28,802 votes, representing 53.80% to beat the NDC stalwart, Albert Bosomtwi-Sam who garnered 14,990, representing 28.00% of the votes.

Statistics show the lawmaker's votes keeps dropping each election year.

In the 2000 Parliamentary election, Papa Owusu Ankomah amassed 28,434 of the valid votes cast, representing 67.6% to beat Anthony Richard Cudjoe from the NDC who obtained 11,661, representing 27.7% of the votes.

The Sekondi legislator in the 2004 elections, obtained 17,433 of the valid votes cast, representing 66.3%. His main competitor, Betty Bosumtwi-Sam from the NDC had 8,086 votes, representing 30.7%.

In the 2008 elections, the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice got retained for the Sekondi seat with 13,005 of the valid votes cast, representing 55.4% while Betty Bosumtwi-Sam obtained 9,578 votes, and representing 40.8%.

In the 2012 election, Papa Owusu-Ankomah obtained 14,735 of the valid votes cast, representing 51.19% while his main political rival, Anthony Richard Cudjoe, who contested him in the 2000 election amassed 13,644 votes, representing 47.40%.

Hon Kofi Osei-Ameyaw – the soft spoken MP has lost interest in parliamentary work according interviews he has granted. He is quitting active politics to focus on other private business. He has been in Parliament from January 2001 to date.

Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey – Though willing to do active politics, Madam Sackey has decided to quit from active politics on health grounds. She has absented herself from the Second Session of the Sixth Parliament due to illness.

David Oppong Kusi - Who has been in Parliament for three terms (2005 to date) has lost interest in parliamentary work and also prefers doing active politics from the sidelines.

Mr. Peter Wiafe Peprah – Until he entered into politics, he was the Managing Director, Paramount Distilleries. After been in parliament from 2009 to date, the legislator now wants to put down his political suit to don his business executive suit.

In the 2012 Parliamentary election, he amassed 20,766 votes out of the 32,530 valid votes cast, representing 63.84% to beat the main political opponent, Samuel Asamoah from the NDC who garnered 11,764 votes.

Mr. Ofosu Asamoah – The policy maker is now interested in business ventures than politics having served his people of Kade from 2001 to date.

The “big six” have all contributed immensely to the elephant fraternity and in parliament as well.
