NPP Bans Camping Delegates In Ashanti

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sternly warned the 138 aspirants contesting for 44 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti Region not to camp the delegates.

Sam Pyne, the party’s regional secretary, stated that it is unlawful for delegates who would be voting on Saturday to be camped by any of the aspirants.

He stressed that any parliamentary aspirant who would flout this rule would be disciplined by the party’s leadership.

According to him, the delegates should be allowed to move from their various homes to the voting centres on the day of the primaries – Saturday, June 13 – to ensure that peace prevails in the party.

He also urged the delegates who would be voting on Saturday to report at the various centres at the stipulated time to avoid disappointment, while reminding them that polls are expected to start at 7am and end at 3pm.

According to the NPP regional scribe, any delegate who would visit the polling station after 3pm would not be allowed to exercise his/her franchise.

Mr Pyne disclosed that the Electoral Commission (EC) had assured the party of its readiness to conduct the elections as scheduled.

According to him, all the equipment and materials needed to make the primaries successful had been provided ahead of time.

He sounded a word of caution that it is forbidden for any party executive to campaign for any of the aspirants, especially as the election day approaches.

He entreated the party’s executives at all levels to respect this rule and stay away from trouble.

Sam Pyne said the elections would be held in a peaceful atmosphere since the police had given assurance of their readiness to provide security.

In a related development, Kwasi Kyei, NPP Ashanti Regional communications director, has warned the delegates to be very mindful of the issue of spoilt ballot papers.

He said the delegates would serve as polling agents of the NPP during the national polls in 2016 so it would be bad for them to spoil their ballots on Saturday.
