Police Service Supports Flood Victims

The Ghana Police Service Administration has donated some relief items worth GHC 30, 000.00 to the Mamprobi District Police unit for the June 3rd flood victims at the police barracks.

In a short speech, COP Dr. George Dampare, Director General Finance, thanked God and the police men who were at post to rescue people during the disaster that befell the nation at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and other areas on June 3, 2015.

He said the mandate of the police is to protect the masses and safeguard property and they were able to live up to expectation.

Dr. Dampare said because they were on their core duties at the disaster prone areas they could not concentrate on the policemen who were also affected by the floods.

He commended all the policemen who worked with the other disaster management outfits and said the idea to support them came from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the police administration to bring the items to them and sympathize with them.

According to the police capo, 70 policemen were affected by the floods and there is the likelihood that the number could be more.

The Station Officer of Mamprobi District Police, Chief Inspector Peter Kofi Apoani, receiving the items on behalf of the victims, thanked the administration for the support.

Administrator in Charge of Order Room, Inspector Victoria Kalamy in an interview with the DAILY HERITAGE thanked the IGP and the entire Police Administration for the kind gesture done them.

“Some families were sleeping on bare floor; with these items at least they can have somewhere to lay their heads,” she stated.

The Director of Estate, Chief Superintendent Joshua Copson, told the paper that the flooding was the first time in 47 years that the area experienced such terrible floods.

He said to prevent future occurrence of such floods at the barracks, there is the need to desilt the drains in and around the barracks.

The other affected police barracks were Darkuman, Kwashieman and Kokomlemle-behind Paloma Hotel. The items disbursed included 70 mattresses, 70 plastic buckets, 70 plastic bowls, boxes of Milo, food drinks, boxes of Nido skimmed milk and clothing among others.
