Give Equal Attention To Locally Made Herbal Drugs

The Director of K & G Ventures, manufacturers and dealers of locally made herbal drugs, Kennedy Owusu Agyemang has asked the media to give equal attention and promote locally manufactured herbal medicines alongside other Made in Ghana goods.

He said the quest by the government to promote the patronage of locally made goods can not materialize if herbal drugs made in the country are sidelined.

“The media as the key actors in promoting the acceleration of the national economy must play a lead role in hyping the need for the citizens to patronize certified Made in Ghana herbal drugs, ’’ he said.

Mr. Agyemang who produces ‘Time Herbal Mixture’ for curing malaria, told this reporter that if the needed attention is given to herbal drugs, in particular, those manufactured in the country ,huge sums of money could be saved from the importation of orthodox medicines some which do not completely kill malaria, but only suppress it.

According to him, some of the locally made herbal drugs are very potent in dealing with malaria and other chronic diseases.

He said apart from healing diseases, the herbal sector when given attention can help to ease the surging unemployment rate among the youth in the sense that from the extraction of the herbs till they reach the consumers some work forces are needed.

He indicated that currently he employs about 20 people and hopes to employ more when he expands his operations. Mr. Agyemang said lack of financial support for research in order to come out with more herbal products is the major challenge facing his company.
