Im Happy To Sacrifice Myself For Nana Addo

Outgoing Member of Parliament for Kwadaso constituency, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto says his loss at last Saturday’s NPP primaries will not deter him from supporting his other colleagues in winning the 2016 general elections.

He believes his loss was a necessary 'sacrifice' to ensure the success of Nana Akufo-Addo's bid for the presidentcy in 2016.

“Yes I have lost but I think I have been sacrificed to allow Nana Addo to win the general elections in 2016. My dream is to see Nana Addo as the president of this country and so I will continue to fight,” he stated.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) went to the polls on Saturday, June 13, 2015 to elect parliamentary candidates for the 2016 elections.

In all, 24 sitting MPs lost, with the largest number coming from the Ashanti Region. The Kwadaso constituency was not an exception.

Incumbent MP, Dr Afriyie Akoto, lost his seat after serving two terms. In the five-person contest, Dr Akoto polled 98 votes, but lost to Samuel Kwadwo Nuamah, who polled 191 votes.

Speaking two days after the contest, Dr Afriyie Akoto told listeners of Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show that though parliament will lose experienced MPs in their next term of office, he still believes delegates have made their choice and he respects their decision.

“Even if I didn’t win, I know that Nana Addo will win in the 2016 elections,” he added.
