The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Nhyiaso constituency, Dr. Richard Anane has rejected suggestions to contest the result of last Saturday’s primaries.

The former Minister of Health in the erstwhile Kufuor administration lost to former Ashanti Regional Organizer, Kennedy Kankam.

Dr. Anane who amassed 110 votes while his contender, Mr. Kankam obtained 247, insisted that even though the Electoral Commission (EC) revealed some electoral fraud, he will not drag the progress of the NPP backwards by engaging in a legal brawl.

According to him, “I did not say that I expected something of that nature (losing the primaries) and I’m sure you may even have heard about something that happened (allegation of over voting).”

“…To me, they are not matters that one has to take seriously. In an election, after you have lost, consider it that the people want it to go this way. The delegates of Nhyiaso in their collective wisdom have taken a decision; who am I to say I don’t understand?” He questioned.

When quizzed by the Gold Power Drive morning show host, Alhassan Suhuyini whether he will go to court after losing the parliamentary primaries, Dr. Anane emphasized the need to accept electoral result when they are certified by the EC.

“ The Electoral Commission talked about over voting and so many other things but my attitude to politics and election is that when it is finished, it is finished…I don’t see why I should be complaining about anything when a decision has been taken.”

“…What I want people to appreciate is that when you go to an election and the electoral commission pronounces the results, try to accept it and let the country move. The country is bigger than my person. The constituency is bigger than my person,” he bewailed.

He added saying: “I’m talking about my personal attitude. I believe that you do not wait for things to happen before you complain. I am a doctor and if I wait for you to die can I bring you back? No!”

The legislator also noted that he will work assiduously to ensure that the party wins power in the 2016 General Election.

In all, about 24 MPs in the Minority NPP lost their seats in the primaries held last Saturday.

In a related development, the Dr. Richard Anane corroborated the argument that power in the NPP is wrestled on factional grounds.
