The Member of Parliament for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimo has said losing the ticket to represent the party in the 2016 parliamentary election came to him as shock.
The MP who contested the NPP presidential primaries in 2014, said he still has not been able to figure out what might have caused his defeat.
“I was surprised by the outcome of Saturday’s election in Mampong, I was hopeful of winning to retain my seat for the next parliament so it was surprising for me. It is too early too for me to analyze and come out with any factor or factors which might have contributed to that,” he told Citi News.
“I have conveyed my message in a clear concise manner to the delegates and my campaign had been clean, I mobilized the logistics to support the campaign. So on the day of election I was so confident that my constituents will reelect me to contest the 2016 general elections.”
Addai Nimo polled 207 votes as against Kwaku Ampratwums Sarpong’s 232 votes.
He however promised to continue to work to deliver victory for the NPP in 2016 saying “I’m going to campaign to ensure victory for our party.”
About 24 NPP incumbent MPs lost their bid to return to Parliament because like Addai Nimo, they were also defeated in the primaries.
They comprise 6 women and 19 men MPs.
Some of them include Dr. Richard Anane of Nhyiaeso Constituency, Dr. Afriyie Akoto of Kwadaso and Isaac Osei, Subin Constituency.
