2 Nkawkaw Assassins Busted!

The combined efforts of the Eastern and Northern Region Police commands have led to the arrest of two fugitives who are alleged to be behind recent killings at Nkawkaw.

They are Smailah Mose and Umaru Bele. The two are among a group of hired assassins who allegedly masterminded the killings of three residents of Nkawkaw namely, Zinabu Abessinia, Tanko Gana and Alhaji Umaru at short intervals.

Zinabu Abessinia who was first to be killed at her residence at Freetown, a suburb of Nkawkaw was stabbed to death by an unknown assailant.

The horrible murder was followed by the shooting of Tanko and Umaru to death at their residences at Nkawkaw Zongo and Nkawkaw Akuajoo respectively. In all the incidents, no arrests were made.

The assassins also stabbed one Salifu at a drinking spot at Nkawkaw. Salifu was, however, fortunate to survive the attack when some residents around rushed him to the hospital.

The Eastern Regional Police command subsequently mounted a search for the killers and alerted their colleagues in all parts of the country.

Their efforts yielded fruits when they were informed that some four people had arrived at Nalerugu, a suburb of Nkawkaw and were recruiting some young men in the area to assist them kill more people including Alhaji Dudu, Mallam Hassan, Mallam Habibu, Mpapra alias Major and Mahamadu Morki, the son of the murdered Alhaji Umaru.

The killers were said to have stated that those on their hit list and those they had killed already had been passing information to the security agencies on the activities of Fulani cattle owners and herdsmen, hence their plan to eliminate them all.

They were said to have mentioned the names of their masters who had been contracting them to kill their opponents.

According to the two arrested assassins, their masters promised them a number of cows and armed them with sophisticated weapons to operate.

Prior to their arrest, the police had information that the assassins had gone to see a spiritualist to fortify them to stand against the might of bullets and other lethal objects. The police liaised with the spiritualist, which led to the arrest of the two.

Their other accomplices whose names were not given, however, managed to escape arrest.

The police immediately whisked the two to Koforidua, the regional capital for further investigations.

During interrogation, the two were said to have confessed that they were behind the recent killings at Nkawkaw and mentioned those who hired them. They, however, refused to mention the names of their accomplices.

According to the police, the two have since been put before court and remanded into custody while investigations are ongoing to apprehend all the culprits.
