Four Fired For Embezzling GHC 946, 574.29 At Korle Bu

Four persons indicted in several fund embezzlement cases at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been relieved of their duties. The decision was taken by the Board and Management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after they discovered that the alleged gross incompetence of the culprits forced the institution to run at a loss.

Following a forensic audit commissioned by the Ministry of Health, it was realized that an amount of GHC 946, 574.29 could not be accounted for at the 24 Hour Pharmacy.  It was later established that the four culprits- Mrs Elizabeth Bruce, Mr. Eric Kwaku Kyei, Mrs Augustina Dankyi and Mr. Daniel Eledi were responsible for the embezzlement that took place.

Subject: TERMINATION OF APPOINTMENTS

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Board has decided to terminate with immediate effect the appointment of the following, due to gross incompetence and dereliction of duty in the management and day-to-day operations of the 24-Hour Pharmacy:

The Board’s decision is without prejudice to the ongoing criminal investigations being carried out by the Economic and Organised Crime Organisation in respect of the unaccounted for funds.

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Board wished to inform the staff and all other stakeholders that it remains committed to ensure that the assets of the hospital are protected.

The Board, in exercising its mandate to ensure good governance, transparency and accountability in the management of the hospital has directed management to carry out relevant internal processes and procedures on all other operations of Korle Bu with the view of putting in place robust systems and processes to forestall future such occurrences.
