As part of measures aimed at helping victims of the recent disaster at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, McOttley Holdings, an investment bank, has donated some items to the Peace Fm Disaster Fund set up to reach out to the victims.
The items included three packaged used clothes, five bags of rice, and cartons of soap, cooking oil, milk, and over 30 bags of Neny ice sachet water, which is also one of the products of the company.
Presenting the items, the Managing Director of McOttley Capital, Madam Happy Forson stated that the company was touched by the number of lives that were lost and injured in the fire and flood disasters at circle. “As a sign of good gesture to help the victims, we have decided to contribute our little to help the victims and their family”, she said.
She stated that McOttley Holdings, with its subsidiary firms McOttley Capital, McOttley Money Lending and McOttley Properties decided to come together to show compassion to the victims after news of the disaster broke out.
Receiving the items, the host of UTV morning programme, Adekye Nsroma, Lawyer Tweneboah Kodua thanked McOttley for showing love and sympathy to the victims.
He assured that the items will be coordinated and sent to the victims to help reduce the burden of cate bags of sachet water ring for themselves in these difficult times.
Residents of Accra woke up on June 3 to the devastating news of several deaths in an explosion at a Kwame Nkrumah Circle filling station which claimed about 159 lives.
It was seen as the worst disaster in Accra in the recent past, with human beings burnt beyond recognition in an inferno during a torrential rain that rocked the city.
For close to seven hours people and vehicles were left stranded at various parts of the city as traffic came to a standstill due to torrential rains. Several vehicles were also submerged in the most ferocious flooding in recent past, leaving in its trail the monumental devastation.
Aside those who got injured and the thousands who were rendered homeless in the cause of the ravaging storm, the explosion incident at the GOIL filling station near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle shook Ghanaians to the core scene from the station after the explosion.
Most of the victims of the accident which occurred around 10:20pm Wednesday night were said to be seeking refuge at the filling station from the heavy downpour.
By morning, several people had gathered at the place to confirm what they had heard on radio, as the bodies were packed in waiting trucks to be conveyed to the mortuary.
