4 Teachers In Exams Scandal Granted Bail

The four teachers who were arrested in Kumasi last Friday on suspicion of aiding candidates at the Ahennema Kokoben D/A JHS Centre in Kumasi during this year’s Basic Education and Certificate Examination (BECE) have been granted police enquiry bail.

They are Kenneth Kwadwo Boateng, 25, French and Information and Communicaton Technology (ICT) teacher; Emmanuel Opoku, 29, Mathematics teacher and Boateng Collins, a Religious and Moral Education (RME) teacher all from the Ahennema Kokoben D/A JHS and the fourth suspect, Osei Kwadwo Danso, also an RME teacher from Dida D/A JHS, who was picked at the examination centre.

Verification

The Assistant Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Godwin Ahianyo, told the Daily Graphic yesterday that the answer sheets retrieved from the suspects had been forwarded to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Accra to confirm if the answers were related to the ICT examination questions.

That, he explained, was because the Ashanti Regional head of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) could not confirm if the answers were for the paper being written by the candidates.

According to him, although any ICT teacher could ascertain that, “procedurally, it had to be the subject officer at the head office who should do that.”

He said the answers had been forwarded to Accra to enable the subject officer to confirm the allegation so the police could proceed with the prosecution.

Three of the suspects were arrested in the room of a teacher at Ahennema Kokoben D/A JHS busily photocopying hand-written answers believed to be that for the objective questions of the ICT paper being written by the pupils that morning while the fourth was at the centre invigilating.
