France, Germany In Quarter-Finals Clash

France set up a fascinating quarter-finals tie against Germany on Friday after brushing aside South Korea at the Women's World Cup (WWC).

The match will be the revival of the rivalry between the two European giants, given that the French have had the upper hand in their recent clashes in Europe.

That game will be one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the competition.

Although Philippe Bergeroo's team suffered a shock defeat by Colombia in the group stages, they still topped Group F after wins over England and Mexico and have now scored eight unanswered goals in their last two games. Against South Korea, the French were simply too classy for their opponents, who were without Chelsea midfielder Ji So-yun.

Silvia Neid's Germany defeated Sweden 4-1 in their second-round tie last Saturday to book their place in the last eight.
They are ranked number one in the world and have scored 19 goals in their four games in Canada. They won the World Cup in 2003 and 2007 and will provide a stern test for Bergeroo's talented side, who are ranked third in the world.

England and USA joined the quarter-finalists as they won their Round of 16 matches with impressive wins.
England beat Norway 2-1 while former champions, USA, were 2-0 winners over Colombia.
