Crisis Deepen In GPRTU

Founder and former Chairman of the Kasoa-Kumasi-Tema- Ashiaman branch Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Nana ArkoAshiro, would not have expected to live in peace with his former friends- turned- foes as his successor.

But whether he expected what has been described as the concert party playing out in Central Regional transport authority is another thing.

It is the case of a bad-case scenario of the supposed new administration of the GPRTU in the region new twisting the arms of it national body to edge Nana ArkoAshiro out of his position despite directives from the mother body for his re-instatement.

Not even a national headquarters directive for an indefinite suspension imposed on the Kasoa-Kumasi-Tema- Ashiaman branch Chairman of the union to be reverted for him to assume his post would compel the purported new executives to re-instate the man.

A letter from the National Headquarters, in response to a letter dated 7th January, 2015 from the Central Regional Secretariat, directed the Kasoa-Kumasi-Tema-Ashiaman branch to holds on with its elections until issues concerning the Branch Chairman, Nana ArkoAshiro had been resolved but it was disregarded under the excuse that the national cannot give orders to the regional.

This paper gathered that, upon receiving the directive from the national headquarters, the Regional Working Committee went on to receive nominations and appointed new branch executives- a move that has led to disagreements among members of the GPRTU.

Nana Arko stated more so stated in an interview that the Central Regional Secretariat defied orders from the National office and conducted the elections at the residence of one Alhaji R.S. Artey of Kasoa No.2 GPRTU, adding that it was unconstitutional for the union to have held elections at a member`s residence. “….after the nominations, my buses were sacked from the station by Alhaji R.S. Artey till date”, he posited.

Meanwhile, the Executives of Kasoa-Kumasi-Tema-Ashiaman branch when this paper sought their reason for disregarding the directive alleged lamely, that Nana ArkoAshiro was involved in an un-authorized demonstration to oust the chairman of Neoplan Station branch in his absence on the 17th of July, 2014 in Accra.

The Regional Working Committee decided that it could not work with Nana ArkoAshiro as chairman of the Kasoa-Kumasi-Tema branch because of his involvement in the demonstration.

Stay tuned as the story has just begun.
