Thirty-four soldiers, who were part of the Ghana Battalion 81 contingent, which successfully ended a six-month peacekeeping mission in Lebanon have returned home.
The Ghanaian Contingent served under the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) and was awarded a United Nations (UN) medal in Lebanon for demonstrating a high degree of professionalism, courage, commitment to Lebanon peacekeeping and for standing firm in the execution of the UN mandate.
Speaking at the Mission Accomplishment Parade in Tamale, on Tuesday, to welcome the contingent back to their base (Airborne Force in Tamale), Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Malik Punamane, Commanding Officer of Airborne Force, commended his colleagues for their commitment and dedication to duty, which ensured a successful mission in Lebanon.
Lt Col Punamane, who commanded the battalion at the peacekeeping mission, expressed his gratitude to Lt Col Antwi Awuah Darkwa, Commander Rear of Airborne Force, for the good work he had done in his absence and also to the wives of the soldiers for all the support they gave them.
Madam Joyce Fiavor, Head Magaziaa of the wives of the soldiers, expressed gratitude to God for giving the soldiers strength and for bringing them back home safe and sound.
