Jose Mourinho Considers Baba Rahman As Replacement For Filipe Luis

Reports from Italy claimed Chelsea have made a £10 million offer for 20-year-old Rahman, but it is understood that the Blues are still weighing up whether or not to submit an official bid.

Lyon’s Samuel Umtiti is another young defender, who can play at left-back, who Chelsea are keen on.

Rahman has won a host of admirers for his performances in the Bundesliga and at international level. His displays for Ghana at the African Cup of Nations this year earned widespread praise.

Arsenal and Manchester City have watched him for over two years, while Juventus, Atletico, Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Bayern Munich have all been alerted to Rahman’s talent.

Although Rahman only made his Ghana debut last year, he would almost certainly be granted work permit to play in the Premier League due to his high transfer fee and wages.

Signing a left-back would give Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho the opportunity to hold out for one of his top central defensive targets, John Stones and Raphael Varane.

Chelsea face a battle to land either Stones or Varane this summer, with Everton and Real Madrid insisting both men will stay put.

That may not stop Chelsea testing the resolve of Everton and Real, but bringing in a new left back, such as Rahman, would allow Mourinho to use Branislav Ivanovic in the centre of defence when needed next season and move Cesar Azpilicueta out to the right.

Atlético have offered central defender Toby Alderweireld in exchange for Luis, but Chelsea are considering their options before making a decision on the Belgian who is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton.
