Supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress, Tuesday, thronged the party’s Adabraka headquarters to protest what they described as “neglect” and “arrogance” of appointees of the John Mahama-led administration.
According the aggrieved NDC supporters, some of whom came from other regions aide Greater Accra, some appointees of government have arrogated to themselves insatiable powers that they no longer identify with the grass root not to talk of accommodating them.
In order not to draw media attention to their protest, the supporters marched to the NDC headquarters either in pairs or individually and sat at the reception; demanding to see the party’s National Chairman, Kofi Portuphy.
The aL-hAJJ gathered that the supporters, who came from the various regions, have been brooding over how appointees, particularly Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, have shut their doors at them as a result they have been looking for opportunity to report the issue to the National Chairman.
Realizing that all elected National officers meet at the party headquarters for Functional Executive Committee (FEC) meeting every Tuesday, “we decided today to come here and see the Chairman to tell him our problems,” one of the supporters told this paper.
Some of them were heard quibbling that some of the appointees have taken advantage of happenings in the opposition New Patriotic Party to condition themselves that 2016 was a done deal for NDC “so they don’t mind us again…if you call them they won’t answer your call, meanwhile, we all toiled to bring this party to power.”
“They think the division in the NPP means that NDC will win 2016 hands down so if you call them, they won’t answer. Look, the NPP can decide to bury their differences and form a united front, so they (NDC appointees) shouldn’t take things for a granted,” an obviously infuriated supporter noted.
Others also blame the first family for appointing persons who have no leanings towards the NDC to sensitive positions, saying “when you go to them they don’t know you because they were not in the trenches with us.
Some of these strangers who have been appointed don’t even know how we suffered for the party to some to part.” However, in a quick response to the allegation, an elderly man, who obviously looked like staff at the party headquarters, retorted that it was right for the first family to reach out to other people to identify with the NDC, insisting that members of the party alone cannot garner the 50 percent plus one votes needed to win presidential election.
True to their demands, the National Chairman, after the FEC meeting, invited the supporters to his office individually, but that did not help things as expressions in their faces showed nothing but dejection.
