Alhaji Dori Warns New EC Boss Not To Kowtow To The NPPs Demeaning Posture

The appointment of Mrs. Charlotte Osei as the new Electoral Commissioner has generated debates within political circles as some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have come out to warn her against succumbing to the orders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

But this perceived notion of the NPP has forced a member of the NDC, Alhaji Ibrahim Dori, to come out and condemn them for the stance taken.

President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Article 70(2) of the 1992 Constitution, appointed Mrs. Charlotte Osei as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

A statement signed by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah said Mrs. Osei would replace Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan. Until her appointment, she was the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education.

In an interview with Alhaji Dori, he informed Peacefmonline.com that the NPP has over the years proven to be selective in their appreciation of the work of the Electoral Commission.

He cited the aftermath of the 2012 elections as a clear testimony of how the party (NPP) exhibited a demeaning posture to commissions’ former boss, Dr. Afari Gyan.

According to him the NPP threatened “Dr. Afari Gyan and his family prior to the declaration of the 2012 election results; which obviously was not going their way.”

He therefore urged Mrs. Charlotte Osei to be on top of her work and exhibit a high sense of professionalism and courage to stand the odds of the NPP or any other party that seeks to undermine the institution.
