A bus carrying more than 30 British children has crashed and overturned on a Belgian motorway leaving the driver dead and others injured.

Emergency workers were this morning at the scene of the crash on the E40 motorway near the town of Slijpe, where some of the children were trapped in the coach, operated by Richmond Coaches from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

A local police spokesman said there were eight adults and 34 children aboard the coach, which is thought to have hit a bridge pillar on the motorway, which runs to the Channel ferry ports and Channel Tunnel.
