Takoradi Polytechnic Student Remanded Over Drugs

A 25- year-old student of Takoradi Polytechnic, Samuel Suleman has been remanded, into prison custody by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for possessing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) without authority.

The accused person’s plea was not taken and he would re-appear on July 13.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr Justice Alex Obeng Asante that the complainants are members of the Damang neighbourhood volunteer team.

He said on June 22, around 1230 hours the complainants were on their usual routine patrol duty within the Damang Township.

On reaching the forecourt of the Damang branch of Fiaseman Rural bank, Detective Amponsah said the volunteer team saw the accused person with a bag containing quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp wrapped in black polythene bags.

The prosecutor said Suleman was arrested and handed over to the police together with the substance found on him for investigation.

He said efforts are being made to forward the exhibit to the Police Forensic Science Crime Laboratory for examination.
