The Ghana international’s representative has shed light on the circumstances leading to the player’s departure from the San Siro.
Sulley Muntari’s agent has revealed that the 30-year-old Ghana midfielder knew his time was up at AC Milan and requested his own release from the Rossoneri.
Muntari, who had been heavily linked with a move away from the San Siro this summer, was released by Milan earlier in the week despite having two years left to run on his existing deal. The midfielder, who first moved to the club in 2012, endured a testing campaign. He made only 12 Serie A starts and was told earlier in the year that he was surplus to requirements in Lombardy.
Speaking to the Milan Channel, the player’s representative Fabio Pastorello has shed light on the circumstances leading to Muntari’s departure from the club and explained the Black Star’s affection for his erstwhile employers.
“Sulley is very attached to Milan, Galliani and the whole club, but he realized that his time at AC Milan finished,” Pastorello began, “and so he has come to this decision.
“Muntari had realized that he was not included in [Milan’s] plans, and therefore didn’t want to be a burden on the club.
“The future? Still nothing for now, there has only been contact with some teams. Sulley has great human qualities, he is an amazing guy.”
The release surely brings to a close Muntari’s association with Milan; before his three and a half years with AC, he previously featured for Inter, where he won the Champions League in 2010 and two Serie A titles.
The player’s future is now up in the air, although he is unlikely to have a shortage of suitors, despite the acrimonious circumstances of his departure from Serie A’s fallen giants.
Everton have been linked with the midfielder, while West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers and clubs in Major League Soccer have also been rumoured to be keeping tabs on the former Portsmouth man.
