The Ghana international is being eyed by the PSL giants.
According to reports in South Africa, Ghana international Edwin Gyimah is set for a move away fromSuperSport United, with Orlando Pirates leading the chase for his signature.
The Buccaneers, who are the Rainbow Nation’s only representatives left in CAF continental competition this year, are enjoying a busy offseason. Irvin Khoza’s side have been active in the transfer market, bringing the likes of Felipe Ovono, Gift Motupa and Tendai Ndoro to the Orlando Stadium.
However, defence remains an area of concern, and according to Soccer Laduma, the Soweto heavyweights have identified Gyimah as a potential solution to a problem position.
Not only would he be able to feature in the heart of the backline, but the international can also operate in defence, and could prove to be a valuable asset for Bucs.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a fine campaign in the PSL last season, making 25 appearances with Mpumalanga Black Aces—where he was on loan from SSU.
However, having had their spot in the South African top flight bought by AmaZulu, it appears unlikely that Gyimah will extend his temporary stay with the Amazayoni or sign for them permanently.
The South African magazine report that sources close to the player have indicated that Pirates have made contact with Gyimah’s representatives, and movement is expected on the deal over the coming days.
Before moving to SuperSport in 2011, the 24-year-old featured for Sekondi Hasaacas and Wa All Stars in his homeland.
He made his Ghana debut in 2012, and he has gone on to become a regular squad player for the Black Stars, albeit without making as many appearances as he would surely have liked.
The versatile defensive player was the only outfield player who didn’t enjoy a minute of action for Avram Grant’s side during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, but he overcame this disappointment for feature for the national side as a substitute in the friendly draw against Mali, and as a starter in the 1-0 victory over Togo.
