I'll Be Surprised If NPP Retains Talensi Seat Kweku Baako

Editor-in-Chief of the Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako says he would be surprised if the NPP retains the Talensi seat.

The social commentator in a text message to Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme on Monday said his surprise would be as a result of the fact that the statistics at the constituency favours the NDC.

“An analysis of past and recent electoral dynamics of the Talensi constituency point an advantage to the NDC in this bye election…,” Kweku texted to the show. The NPP, NDC and several political parties have been canvassing for votes in the run up to the elections to be staged on 7th July, 2015.

NPP 2016 flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo and President John Dramani Mahama addressed rallies organized by their parties to wrap up their weeks of intense campaigns in Talensi. Statistics indicated the Talensi seat had always been won by the NDC. This changed in 2012 when Robert Mosore who is now the paramount chief of Tongo beat the incumbent John Akologo Tia.

Several analyst attributed the current Ambassador to Cuba’s defeat to a division within the ranks of the NDC and thus with the NDC reconciling itself, the party has been tipped to re-capture the seat.

This conclusion, Kweku Baako thinks it’s reasonable.

“…I will be surprised if the NPP retains the seat. The mathematics do no favour the NPP,” he texted.

Kweku Baako further opined that he believes it was a ‘wrong timing’ and ‘detrimental’ to the NPP for Robert Mosore to have resigned from politics at this time.

“I respect the former MP’s decision to answer the call to take up the role of a traditional ruler and lead his people. However, methinks it was wrong timing and detrimental to his party’s electoral interest. I may be wrong but that is my take on the matter,” he texted further.
