All Bonuses Paid To Ghana-20 Team, Says Minister

Ghana deputy minister of youth and sports has indicated that they do not owe any member of the Black Satellites team. Ghana U20 team players and officials have finally received their junior World Cup bonuses almost a month after the tournament, which was held between May 30 and June 20 in New Zealand. The funds, meant for bonuses to the second round and group stage victories over Argentina and Panama, had been outstanding since the competition ended. Deputy minister of youth and sports Vincent Oppong Asamoah confirmed on Monday that all the debts had been cleared. I can confidently reveal that the Black Satellites received their bonuses two weeks ago. The delay was not deliberate on the part of the ministry. Sometimes, there are delays from the release of funds from government, Asamoah told Graphic Sports. The minister did not mention the amount each player or official received, however, news circulating in the local media suggest that each player and official pocketed $6000. Asamoah further shed light on the delay in payment of the bonuses for the Black Stars after their 7-1 thrashing of Mauritius in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The budget was brought to us after the game and we could not process it on time to pay the team. We did not meet the timeline because it had to go through the Chief of Staff at the Presidency before the Ministry could disburse the funds.
