Man Fined For Threatening To Kill With Scissors

A Tarkwa circuit court has fined Yaw Ofori, a 32 year-old illegal miner GH¢360.00 for threatening to stab his colleague, Seidu Dabo, with a pair of scissors at Kaniakor, an illegal mining site near Nsuaem.

He pleaded guilty, at the trial, presided over by Mr. Justice Alex Obeng Asante.

Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah said on June 26, at about 12:30 pm, the accused and two others, went to the complainant’s grinding stone machine to crush their gold bearing stones.

He said after grinding the stones, another person also put his stones in the machine’s bucket to be processed.

The accused then alleged that he left some of his stones in the bucket and started quarrelling with Seidu, who was then operating the machine.

The Prosecutor said a misunderstanding ensued between them and one of the accused person’s workers slapped the complainant.

Inspector Amponsah said Ofori, who was not part of the scuffle, also slapped the complainant, so he retaliated by hitting his left eye and those standing by separated them.

After a few minutes, the Prosecutor said the accused armed himself with a broken bottle and threatened to stab Seidu, but he was driven out of the area again by his colleagues.

Inspector Amponsah said on June 27 at about1300 hours, Seidu was working at his grinding machine shop when the accused appeared with a pair of scissors to kill the complainant.

He said the committee members at the site arrested Ofori and handed him over to the Police with the pair of scissors.
