Gas Leakage Cause Vehicular Traffic In Takoradi

Motorists moving into and out of Takoradi in the Western region were left stranded for several hours Wednesday morning following an abrupt closure of the main Nchaaban road as a result of a reported leakage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from a gas station.

A tanker was said to be offloading gas at the station when the leakage occurred.

As a precaution, the station was evacuated and the road was blocked to prevent casualties in case there was an explosion. This resulted in a heavy vehicular traffic on the Nchaaban road for about four hours as traffic was at a standstill.

No vehicle was able to leave or enter Takoradi, the Western regional capital between 5:30 am and 10am.

An eyewitness heading towards Takoradi said he got to Nchaaban at 5:30am and as of 9:45am, he was still in traffic. He described the situation as chaotic and hectic.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were however able to bring the situation under control and by 10am, traffic had started flowing.
