Girl, 17, Busted For Selling Wee

The Kwahu Tafo Police Unit in the Kwahu East district of the Eastern region has arrested two persons involved in the growing and distribution of Indian hemp, popularly known as wee.

The first to be arrested was one Charles Asamoah, 23, of Kwahu Tafo for cultivating a two-acre Indian hemp (wee) farm on the Kwahu Tafo-Bukruwa road.

Also at Kwahu Tafo, a 17-year-old Junior High School graduate, who gave her name only as Victoria has been arrested by the police for selling some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

According to the Station Officer at Kwahu Tafo police station, Chief Inspector Seth Ahwireng, the police had information that some people in the town were dealing in illegal drugs, especially, wee and therefore decided to mount operations to clamp down on those people, hence, the arrest of Victoria.

He commended the public for assisting the police to fight crime and hoped the co-operation would continue and promised to protect the identity of informants.

The station officer said the police would conduct thorough investigations to ascertain whether Victoria was working for some adults or herself since she was too young to involve herself in such a business.

On his part, the Nkawkaw Divisional Police Commander, Chief Supt. James Osafo Peprah said they had information that suspect Asamoah had planted weeds suspected to be Indian hemp in his farm and planted maize and cassava around them to deceive the public.

The police, therefore, managed to locate the farm and later arrested Asamoah who confirmed being the owner of the farm and led the police to the farm.

The suspect who confirmed that the plants were Indian hemp then assisted the police to uproot the weed.

He has since been put before the Mpraeso Circuit Court and remanded to appear at a later date.
