Takyi Arhin Blasts Asamoah Gyan Over China Move: He Is Too 'Money Conscious'

Controversial Ghanaian football administrator, Takyi Arhin has lambasted Ghana striker Asamoah over his reported move to Chinese side Shanghai SIPG.

Arhin says the Black Stars skipper doesn't care about playing football in competitive leagues to impact the national team because the Black Stars skipper is too 'money conscious'.

The 29-year-old has arrived in the Asian country to complete his move to the ambitious side after spending four years at Al Ain. Gyan, the captain of the Ghana national team, who is on a $250,000 weekly sum at the UAE side, is set to earn a staggering $350,000 weekly at the Chinese side.

The former Sunderland hitman has insisted his move to Shanghai SIPG is not influenced by money as he seeks a fresh challenge. But controversial football administrator Takyi Arhin is unconvinced and criticized him for the move.

In an interview with Accra-based Atinka FM, Arhin, popularly known in football circles as 'Thunder' questioned Gyan's decision to move from a more competitive league as the English Premier League and into Asia.

"Gyan is too money conscious and as the skipper of the national team like Ghana you cannot only be moving from anywhere like that all because of money...".

“Football is not all about money. Gyan left Sunderland and joined Al Ain. Now, he is off to China. What is the pedigree of Chinese football and the Chinese league? He asked on Atinka FM.

“Someone needs to tell Gyan that as the Captain of the Black Stars, he should stop chasing money and think about Ghana.”

During his triumphant spell Al Ain, the club won three AGL trophies, the 2013/14 President’s Cup and 2012 Arabian Gulf Super Cup. He was top scorer in the 2014 AFC Champions League as he fired Zlatko Dalic’s men to the semi-finals for the first time in nine years.

But signs of age catching up with Gyan emerged last term. A lingering quadriceps problem restricted him to just 12 league starts, the Boss still being able to go on in his regular absences to win the title by nine points. He now continues the summer flood of elite talent to the big-spending Chinese top flight.
