Police Arrest �Mine Murder� Suspect

Police have arrested Michael Akondo, who ran over and killed Emmanuel Ofosu, 42 a Senior Safety Mines Supervisor with a grader at the Asanko Gold Mines at Mansonkran in the Ashanti Region.

The deceased who was working in the concession of Asanko Gold died instantly.

According to a report from the Pathologist Department of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Mr Ofosu died through haemorrage shock and crushed injuries of the chest.

Detective Frank Attico of the Manso Nkran District Police Command, near Bekwai said Mr Ofosu on that fateful day had conducted a safety meeting for the workers in a pit and was directing one of the trucks to give way for technicians to attend to a faulty floodlights, when the suspect drove over, hit and ran over him.

He told the GNA that the suspect has since been granted police enquiry bail, while investigations are ongoing to unravel the mystery.

The docket of the case would be sent to the Attorney-General’s Department for advice.
