Akyem-Tafo Residents Scramble For fuel from tanker accident

Scores of residents at Akyem-Tafo early Sunday morning were busy fetching fuel from a fuel tanker that fell over on the street.

The vehicle was heading to Bumso from Tafo in the Eastern Region when the accident occurred.

Two occupants of the vehicle were rescued and are currently receiving treatment in a nearby hospital.

An eyewitness who spoke to Citi News said the tanker fell over after falling into a gutter.

“There was a speed ramp at the junction so the tanker driver slowed down for another car to pass. The tanker fell into a gutter. He tried to move the car from the gutter and before we released the tanker fell off from the gutter,” he said.

He stated that residents rushed with containers top scoop volumes of the leaked diesel adding that “people were rushing for the fuel and I was surprised why they were more concerned about the fuel than the trapped occupants of the vehicle.”

Meanwhile, the Akyem Tafo District Police Commander, DSP Agyenim Boateng confirmed the incident  and added that the Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
