The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, and his wife, Rebecca, left Ghana on Friday, July 10, 2015, for a 3-week visit to the United Kingdom (UK).

Suspiciously, however, no national executive member of the NPP is on the trip with him, despite the fact that, he is scheduled to hold meetings with members of the NPP-UK branch and chapter executives to discuss party matters.

Apart from his wife, Nana Akufo-Addo, was accompanied on this trip by Ms. Saratu Atta, his Executive Assistant, and is due to return home on Friday, July 31, 2015.

Indeed, many NPP insiders, including Baah Acheamfuor, Director of Communications for “Save NPP Now” are wondering the true reason behind the trip, with some suggesting the 71-year old man, might be going for medical treatment.

It is not clear, why no national executive member of the party is on the trip, especially when he is going to meet party leaders in the Diaspora to discuss party matters; fortune and strategies for the 2016 elections.

Baah Acheamfuor, Director of Communications for “Save NPP Now” in a short interaction with The Herald, questioned why the NPP went to the UK to have meetings with party executives, leaving behind the national executives.

He said, this confirms Nana Addo’s “disrespect” for chief administrators of the NPP, including Paul Afoko and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong.

Mr. Acheamfuor noted that, “Nana Addo’s actions are deepening the cracks and divisions in NPP”, adding, he is also coming across as lacking proper leadership skills to manage the crisis within the party.

Nana Addo, according to the notice, is also scheduled to be the guest of honour at the inauguration of the Northampton Chapter of the branch on July 18; and later attend a branch general meeting on July 26.

Additionally, he is schedule to visit some educational institutions in England, and interact with members of the Ghanaian community in the UK.
Nana Addo, in May, embarked on a 16-day tour of some countries in Europe with some national leaders to raise funds for the party.

He was scheduled then to visit five countries, namely Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy, where he had scheduled meetings with members of the NPP branches in such areas.

His tour was, however, cut short following the death of the NPP’s Upper East Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama, through acid attack.
