Ghana Athletics Have Bright Future - Prof Dodoo

Professor Francis Dodoo, Chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has said that Ghanaian athletes have the prospects of winning more laurels for the nation in international competitions if the right structures are put in place to develop the sport at all levels and in all disciplines. He noted that the country abounds in a lot of talents in both track and field events and so this calls for massive investment in the sport to help nurture and attract the youth. The Chairman said this in an inter-reaction with GNA Sports in Kumasi after the two-day National Athletics Championship held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium at the weekend. Prof Dodoo, a former national triple jumper who was recently appointed the GAA Chairman, said his vision for athletics for the country was to tap potential future stars, stressing that in view of this the Association intends to partner corporate bodies for sponsorships for most of its talent-hunt programmes. He promised to be transparent and accountable in his administration to raise the standard of athletics. The GAA Chairman said there was the need to organize refresher courses for coaches in the various disciplines to upgrade their skills, knowledge and expertise if athletics was to be developed to an appreciable standard. Prof Dodoo further called for the motivation of Ghanaian athletes to help ginger them to strive for excellence at international competitions.
