Rennes Want Majeed Waris

The Ghana international is being eyed by the Rouges et Noirs for a return to Ligue 1.

After only a season at Trabzonspor, Waris Majeed could be set for a departure, with Stade Rennais keen to bring the Ghana striker back to Ligue 1.

The Black Star spent six months on loan at Valenciennes, and has already demonstrated that he can cut it in French football.  He scored nine goals in 16 outings for Les Atheniens in 2014, and his brief cameo clearly left an impression on Rennes, even if Waris’s goals couldn’t help VAFC avoid relegation.

According to Le 10 Sport, Philippe Montanier is keen on the 23-year-old and has already had one offer of €4 million for the forward rebuffed by the Trabzon heavyweights.

However, the French source understand that Rennes remain keen on the striker and may well return with a deal closer to the €6 million asking price requested by Trabzonspor.

Rennes are looking to strengthen their offensive areas as they anticipate the loss of either Ola Toivonen or Paul-Georges Ntep, with the possibility of both men leaving the club not altogether impossible.

They have already signed Ivorian hitman Giovanni Sio from FC Basel, although the Elephant wasn’t overwhelmingly impressive on loan at SC Bastia last season, managing only five goals during his temporary spell in French football.

They are also keen on Angers forward Jonathan Kodjia, and have opened negotiations for the €3 million Beninois hitman.

Waris has endured a tricky year in Turkey, as injury severly affected his progress with the Black Sea Storm. The attacker missed the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, and only made his return to club action towards the end of the campaign. In 18 league appearances for Trabzonspor, he contributed only one assist and failed to score a single goal.
