The  Japanese  Ambassador  to  Ghana,  Kaoru  Yashimura  has  assured  Ghanaians  that  the  Japan  government  is  working  hand-in-hand  with  the  international  community  to  fight  the  deadly  Ebola  virus  and  ensure  that  Ghana  remain  free  of  the  virus.

He  gave  this  assurance  when  addressing  some  border  officials  at  a  training  workshop  on  Ebola  virus  detection,  management  and  prevention  at  Koforidua  in  the  Eastern  region.

African  countries  are  living  in  fear  following  the  outbreak  in  some  countries  which  has  impacted  negatively  on  human  and  economic  development.

Even  though  Ghana  has  not  recorded  any  cases  of  Ebola  virus,  the  government  and  its  partners  are  working  hard  to  ensure  that  the  nation  remain  free  of  the  deadly  virus.

National  training  workshop  for  points  of  entry,  is  one  of  the  interventions   that  serve  as  a  training  of  trainers  programme  to  equip  frontline  immigration  workers  with  enhanced  skills  and  knowledge  to  prevent,  control  and  contain  the  Ebola  virus  disease  should  any  case  be  recorded  in  Ghana.

The  two-day  training  workshop  brought  together,  officials  from  the  immigration  service,  CEPS  and  the  Ghana  health  services.

Addressing  the  participants,  the  Japan  Ambassador  to  Ghana,  His  Excellency  Kaoru  Yoshimura  stated  that,  the  government  of  Japan  considers  the  outbreak  as  a  threat  to  human  and  economic  development  hence  will  support  Ghana  to  prevent  the  virus  from  crossing  the  borders.

He  expressed  worry  over  the  fresh  cases  found  in  Liberia  two  weeks  ago  after  being  declared  free  of  Ebola  on  9th  May,  adding  that,  the  outbreak  still  persists  in  Guinea  and  Sierra  Leone,  creating  a  high  possibility  of  infected  people  crossing  into  neighbouring  countries  through  the  region’s  borders.

Speaking  to  UTV  in  an  interview,  Ambassador  Kaoru  Yoshimura  noted  that,  the  outbreak  has  a  severe  impact  of  economic  growth  especially,  agriculture.

As  part  of  the  training  workshop,  the  Japan  government  and  other  International  community  donated  various  hygienic  equipment  to  be  used  for  Ebola  control  and  security.

The  equipment  are  to  be  used  at  the  Tema  and  Kotoka  entry  points.
