High Court Orders Recount of NPP Parliamentary Votes

A High Court in Sunyani has ordered the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) to recount votes of the parliamentary primary held last Saturday in the Sunyani East Constituency.

The primary was to elect the party’s 2016 parliamentary candidate after it was suspended as part of the 30 others on June 13.

Incumbent Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh won the primary by just one vote after polling 388 votes.

The second-placed candidate, George Kumi, a former Ghana envoy to Nigeria and Libya, decided to contest the result at the Sunyani High Court 3.

The Court on Friday ruled that the recount is conducted within two hours.
