Adansi Asokwa Constituents Warn Chairman Not To Oust Oduro Anokye
An appeal has been laid before the National Appeals Committee of the New Patriotic Party to take a look at how things are beginning to turn sour in the party as far as vetting is concerned in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency.
A copy of the petition forwarded to Peacefmonline.com spells out that the Constituency Chairman Mr. Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, is scheming to oust Mr Richard Oduro Anokye from contesting in the upcoming parliamentary primary and written several letters to the party leaders to ensure the latter is disqualified.
A copy of the statement below...
By the provisions of the article 11 clause 2(c) and clause 4(a), (b) (c) and (d) of the New Patriotic Party Constitution, we strongly affirm the eligibility of Mr Richard Oduro Anokye who has passed through the vetting to contest the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Primaries in Adansi Asokwa Constituency.
Mr Chairman, article eleven (11) clause2(c) of the party's constitution states plainly that "A member applying for nomination as the party's parliamentary candidate should be a known and active member for at least two years.
Article eleven (11) clause 4(d) further states that "No member shall be entitled to apply for nomination as the party's parliamentary candidate for any constituency unless he or she is known and active member of at least two (2) years and registered and voter in the constituency which he or she seeks to represent.
Mr. Chairman, if article eleven of the party's constitution is valid and respected, then we boldly say that the above quoted clause qualifies Mr. Richard Oduro Anokye as an active member of the party. From 2009 ill date, Mr Richard Oduro Anokye has been a KNOWN figure in the constituency and a familiar face to our Constituency Chairman Mr. Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, who had earlier claimed he does not know him.
He is a registered Member and a voter in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency who cast his vote at Adansi Asokwa JHS Polling Station A with the polling station code number FO21703.
During the 2012 election, Mr. Richard Oduro Anokye supplied 5 sets of jerseys and 5 footballs to the party.
He supported our polling station executives’ elections and constituency executives’ elections with Gh500.00 and Gh1000.00 respectively. He also donated 200 pieces of school uniforms in support of the Regional Chairman's free school uniform campaign programme.
Aside this, he actively participated in all the regional demonstrations organized by the party against the ruling government; and in most cases, provided water for his constituents who partook in such demonstrations in Kumasi.
In addition to the above, he visited all the electoral areas during the Limited Registration Exercise to monitor the exercise and gave GHc20.00 to each of the party's agents present. He also sent a report on the exercise to both the Constituency and the Regional Secretary. Finally he has paid his dues up to date which shows that he is of a good standing.
However, it is very shocking to note that our Constituency chairman Mr. Peter Kwabena Ameyaw has written several letters to the party leaders at the Headquarters that they should disqualify Mr. Richard Oduro Anokye because he is not active member and not known in the constituency of which there is no iota of truth in it.
Chairman Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw once introduced Mr Richard Oduro Anokye to us as the next Member of Parliament for the constituency and his forms were endorsed by him. The mystery surrounding this whole saga has to do with the chairman endorsing Oduro Anokye’s forms and seeing to it that he occupies the number two position on the proposed ballot paper.
To our dismay, our chairman later turns around and claims he doesn’t qualify to contest in the upcoming election. We therefore appealing to the party to act according to our constitution and ensure the matter is settled amicably. NPP is a democratic and a constitutional party so the leaders should respect and act in accordance to retain Adansi Asokwah constituency.
We humbly appeal to our party leaders to let us known when Adansi Asokwa is voting
