Akua Donkors Party Threaten Legal Action Against Electoral Commission

We as the national executives of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) have always recognized, acknowledged and dignified your sacred constitutional mandate and role as a
commission to independently supervise the electoral processes,
procedures and guide lines and monitor as well as conducting
elections in order to fine-tune the country’s fledgling democracy
to assume an enviable position that we will all cherish for.

We must say we do appreciate the kind of cordial relationship
that we have had with your prestigious organization since 2012
elections.

However, we must admit that we are highly disappointed in the Electoral
Commission and by extension the newly appointed commissioner,
Mrs Charlotte Osei for causing such an unpardonable blunder as
she undertook her first assignment regarding Talensi by-election
on 7th July 2015.

We wonder why the Commissioner and Commission allowed Mr. Yaro
Bameezina Philip to contest on the ticket of our party in Talensi
by –election without conferring with our National Chairman and
General Secretary. Akua Donkor, our 2012 flagbearer was the only
person the commission worked with and the move saddens us.

We think that it is a total contravention of our party’s constitution
and activities as well as your outfit’s guideline and operations
towards political parties’ activities for accepting nomination forms
which has not been endorsed by a recognized political party’s
chairman or secretary.

To back our point regarding  the provisions of our party’s constitution
we would want to cite  Article 16(1) which stipulates that,’’ No Member
shall be nominated or endorsed as party’s candidate in any parliamentary
election unless the Member has been selected in accordance with the
provisions of the constitution’’.

Article(4)  says, ‘’A member applying for nomination as the party’s
Parliamentary Candidate should be a known and active member for
at least one(1) year provided that ,in appropriate cases, the National
Executive Committee, in consultation with the Regional and
constituency Executive, may dispense with the requirement’’.

As a matter of fact Yaro Bameezina in his recent outburst indicated
that apart from Madam Akua Donko he did not know any executive
of the party and this has been captured in several news items
published by some online newspapers including ghanatoghana.com

With this we think that your outfit should have rejected Mr Yaro
Bameezina Philip’s nomination forms since it was not endorsed by
our party’s National chairman and secretary.

We believe that we should receive parity recognition as other
political parties do receive from your end.

We want to emphatically state that there is a recognized national
executive in place according to the provisions of our constitution.

So henceforth we want to entreat your outfit to disregard anybody’s
attempt including the former flag bearer Madam Akua Donkor to field
anybody or herself to contest for any future elections without the
collective knowledge, consent and acceptance of the national
executives of our party.

We want to inform you that if your outfit fails to oblige to respond
accordingly to our demand we will be compelled to take legal action
against the commission.

We further want to implore your office to inform us about any future
IPAC meeting to enable us attend and participate to contribute our
quota in the development of the country’s democracy.

Thanks for your cooperation

Yours Faithfully,
