Central Regional Minister, Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is teaching “Ghanaian youth how to lie.”
According to him, even though the NPP knows the truth about the economy and development projects being undertaken by government, they are lying between their teeth just to make the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) unpopular.
The minister’s outburst was to counter allegations by the Central regional wing of the NPP that the on-going construction of the Kotokuraba Market Complex was not a market as being said, but a shopping mall which will be owned by only NDC stalwarts to deprive the market traders of their place.
The Central Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Kwamena Duncan, during a keep fit exercise by his party to outdoor their parliamentary candidate for Cape Coast South, Lawyer Michael Atta Dadzie, over the weekend asserted that the Kotokuraba Market was being turned into a shopping mall instead of a market as it was originally planned to displace the original occupants of the facility.
The regional minister found the comment of the NPP scribe as unfortunate and an attempt to deceive the people just to score cheap political points.
At the launch of an Information Communication Technology (ICT) initiative by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South, Mr. Kweku Ricketts Hagan, in Cape Coast on Monday, the minister replied, saying NPP knows very well that it is a modern market which is under construction hence the designs and structures would have to change but are taking advantage of the situation to deceive the people.
He observed that the completion and end product of the project which is expected to be completed by the end of the year will silence the NPP once and for all.
Mr. Quansah intimated that the NPP is only teaching the youth to lie, adding that since “these young ones look up to us politicians, they will only end up towing the line of the NPP if things continue like this.”
“What did they do for the people of Cape Coast when they were in power for 8 years? They knew the people needed a market badly but did nothing about it so why are they pulling us (NDC) down?, he inquired.
“As a government we will not be intimidated by what they are doing and we are not going to lose focus. We will not succumb to their negativity and unnecessary criticisms but will continue to do what we can to alleviate the suffering of the masses”, he added.
He however mentioned that they (NDC) are open to constructive criticisms, adding that “at the end of the day, the good people of Ghana will judge us by our deeds.”
For his part, the National Communications officer of the NDC, Mr. Solomon Nkansah, added that what the NPP knows best is to go on the airwaves daily to spread falsehood and lies about government.
He therefore appealed to Ghanaians to turn deaf ears to their [NPP’s] antics and continue to support the NDC to develop the nation.
