842 Killed In Road Crashes In 6 Months

Data made available to The Finder indicates that 842 persons lost their lives through road crashes nationwide as of June this year involving 8,625 vehicles. 

Out of the 842 persons that died, 635 were males and 207 females.

Experts fear the situation would leave various dependants with serious problems as bread winners are being killed on Ghana’s roads.

A total of 560 males who died were above 18 years while 65 of them were below 18 years.

For the females, 142 of the deceased were above 18 years while 65 were below 18 years.

The regional breakdown of the document shows Accra Region scoring the highest number of fatalities with 168 out of 2,304 cases reported involving 3,736 cars.

Towing in line is the Brong Ahafo Region, which recorded 135 deaths in 348 cases concerning 499 automobiles.

The Eastern Region came in third documenting 116 ruins in 573 reports linking 840 cars. Fourth is the Ashanti Region with 89 deaths concerning 566 cases involving 820 vehicles.

Following the sequence is the Western Region with 83 fatalities in 300 cases concerning 443 vehicles. The Central Region came in sixth with a total of 372 reports and 65 fatalities. 

Tugging behind closely is the Northern Region with 53 deaths in 125 cases involving 213 cars. Coming in eighth is the Volta Region documenting 39 casualties in 240 cases involving 362 cars.

Next is the Upper East Region with 35 deaths in 96 cases involving 156 cars. The Upper West Region followed with 32 casualties in 81 cases concerning 122 vehicles.

Recording the least number of fatalities of 27 is Tema Region, documenting 565 cases involving 954 vehicles.

The data held that out of the total numbers of crashes recorded, 692 were fatal, 1,614 were serious and 3,267 were minor cases.
