Carlos Ahenkorah, an aspiring parliamentary candidate for the Tema West constituency, on Monday joined over 500 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to embark on a keep fit exercise to mark his birthday.
Three persons, including Carlos Ahenkorah, Adwoa Amoako and the sitting Member of Parliamentary (MP) for the constituency, Irene Naa Torshi Addo, have filed their nominations to contest at the party’s parliamentary primary, scheduled to take place, come Saturday.
This was after the confusion, misunderstanding, accusations and counter-accusations between the sitting MP and Carlos Ahenkorah, and court issues among others, all towards attempts to disqualify the aspirant to pave the way for the sitting MP to go unopposed.
Thankfully, in spite of all the allegations leveled against Mr. Ahenkorah, in a desperate attempt to disqualify him, a court of competent of jurisdiction cleared him after he had been cleared several times by the party’s Vetting Committee. The aspiring parliamentary candidate and the delegates converged at the school park, opposite the Corpus Christi Catholic Church at Sakumono, where they were taken through some aerobics before hitting the road.
From there they marched from the Corpus Christi main road, through the Sakumono flats towards the Sakumono Police Station, then joined the Sakumono Estate junction, turned right and reconvened at the campaign office of the aspirant. The elated party delegates sang ‘gyama’ songs, some of which indicated their strong support for the former president of the Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF).
Some of the candidates, who spoke to the paper in an interview on condition of anonymity, said they were happy that, at long last, the candidate who they have accused of working against him had been given the green light to contest.
According to the delegates, the total votes being garnered by the party during the general elections has shrank tremendously, and, therefore, there was the need to do whatever it takes to recoup all the lost votes in the 2016 elections, if Nana Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the party, was to win convincingly.
