Foreign Minister Lauds Akua Donkor

Foreign Minister, Hon. Hanna Tetteh, has lauded Madam Akua Donkor for having “a practical mindset and understanding of issues affecting ordinary Ghanaians.

In a piece she wrote on social media, the Foreign Minister said Madam Akua Donkor, Founder of the Ghana Freedom Party has a unique ability to identify important issues and frame the discussion in such a way that Ghanaians from all walks of life and different social status can clearly appreciate the points that she makes and the issue at stake.

Hon. Hanna Tetteh’s comments is coming in the wake of snide comments being passed by some politicians and a section of the media over AKua Donkor’s inclusion in president Mahama’s entourage that visited Italy recently.

Critics of Madam Akua Donkor hold that she is an illiterate and therefore does not have the capacity to appreciate, implement or advice on issues that are discussed during a trip of this nature.

But, Ghana’s Foreign Minister has a different view.
“She has demonstrated to women of different backgrounds but especially to the hardworking farmers, fishmongers, bakers, hairdressers, dressmakers etc that you do not need to feel intimidated by your lack of formal education if you also have the desire to contribute to our development through political participation,” she says.

According to Hon. Hannah Tetteh who is also MP for the Awutu-Senya Constituency, with regards to the trip to Italy, Madam Akua Donkor had the chance to observe the exhibitions at the Milan Expo and given her very practical nature, will probably be better equipped to translate the ideas and projects to which she’s been exposed into practical advice, initiatives and projects that will benefit the poor.

The Foreign Minister also commended president Mahama’s policy of ensuring that people who are from the grassroots also get invited to be on presidential trips. “It is not the case of all trips but where possible, we are accompanied by persons who have demonstrated a desire and commitment to make a difference in our nation through participation in politics,” the Foreign Minister added.

Since she returned from Italy, Madam Akua Donkor has been interviewed by many media houses ostensibly to expose her inability to understand issues regarding the trip to justify their attacks on her. However, she has been on top of the issues relating to the trip, turning the table on her detractors to their chagrin.
