The retired midfielder has lauded his countryman's move to Villa Park after signing a five-year deal on Monday.

Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey claims Jordan Ayew will be a success at Aston Villa after the 22-year-old striker joined the Premier League side from French club FC Lorient on Monday.

The 40-year-old, who played one season at Villa in 1994-95 under Ron Atkinson, believes Ayew has made the right career decision.

"It’s certainly a good decision for Jordan to move to Aston Villa,” Lamptey told Citi FM. "It reminds me of my own move to Villa in 1994 when I moved from PSV to Villa. I know he will be an instant hit with the club and that would be great for his career."

The former Coventry City and Anderlecht player however enjoins Ayew to double his training to be able to survive the Premier League.

Ayew scored 12 goals and provided five assists for his former club Lorient last season.

"If he was training once in France he has to do double in England because of the competitive nature of the league. His physique is built for such a league and he is even taller than his elder brother Dede, so I see the future being bright for him,” he said.

Lamptey was a member of the Ghana U17 team that won the 1991 Fifa U17 World Cup in Italy, scoring four goals. He also won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot of the tournament.

He joined Ghana senior team during the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and was later capped 38 times, scoring eight goals.
