FONKAR Bounces Back

Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) are staging a comeback into active politics after over two years of inactivity.

The group, which was set up to shore up support for former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings – who founded a political party after breaking away from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) – in the 2011 presidential race, is planning a massive re-launch of its activities on August 13, 2015. A new leadership is supposed to be in place.

Conspicuously missing on the list of its new leadership is vociferous Ernest Owusu Bempah, who virtually became the face of the group, leading the charge.

Owusu Bempah is currently a deputy communications director of the National Democratic Party (NDP) – Nana Konadu’s party.

The new FONKAR has tough-talking Joseph Bediako as its national coordinator and Richard Bekoe as its general secretary.

Other executives include one Michael Agyei, who is the director of operations; Godlove Owusu, director of research; Rachel Owusu, women organiser, John Boakye, director of security; Kojo Opoku Tawia, deputy director of security; Lydia Owusua, students representative and Abu Sadik, Zongo coordinator.

The rest are JB Chermo, Eastern Regional coordinator; Christina Bonsu, Central Regional coordinator; Abigail Atta-Owusu; Ellen Fosu, Ashanti Regional Coordinator; Gordon Mpusu, Western Regional coordinator and Eunice Azamati, Volta Regional coordinator.

Leadership of the all-new FONKAR promises to fight for the interest and welfare of Ghanaians. According to its national coordinator, there is too much corruption in high places coupled with the payment of dubious judgment debts by the state to cronies.

Aside that, he complained about the power crisis (dumsor-dumsor) that has saddled the nation for the past three years, the several failed promises, increases in fuel prices and those of goods and services, lack of jobs and general economic hardship.

These and other issues, noted Joseph Bediako, that executives of FONKAR believe Ghanaians must show incumbent President Mahama and his ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) the exit come December 2016 when Ghana goes to the polls to elect a President and Members of Parliament (MPs).
