Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary Education, was at the permanent campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) on Monday to ascertain the readiness of facilities there for official commissioning.
Last week, Professor Fred Binka, Vice Chancellor of the University said at the matriculation of students of a sandwich programme that contractors had completed work on the site for official commissioning.
Mr Ablakwa said the readiness of facilities at the campus was timely in view of the increasing number of students who were expressing interest in the University.
He commended the contractors for doing quality work and said he was impressed with innovations such as the creation of sporting areas at students’ hostels, inbuilt water reservoir and solar panels for streetlights.
Mr Ablakwa also described the architecture as a very “unique” identification of the University.
“Anywhere you see this design and colour in the world you know it is UHAS,” he stated.
He commended the leadership of the University for making sacrifices to see the University to that level and gave the assurance that concerns about the University’s road network and landscaping would be taken care of before the next academic year.
The Deputy Minister earlier toured the temporary facilities of the University at the Volta Regional Hospital and said, “I am happy UHAS has finally taken off.”
The permanent campus, which has seven laboratories, libraries, ICT centre, classroom and administration blocks, cafeteria and auditorium, would house the School of Allied and Health Sciences and the School of Basic Bio-medicals.
The School of Medicine and Nursing and Midwifery would, however, remain at the old campus in the yard of the Regional Hospital.
