Korle Bu Closes Down OPD

The Out Patients Department (OPD) of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has been closed down.
The closure follows the indefinite strike action declared by public sector workers.

The hospital in a statement informed the general public to seek outpatient services at other private and peripheral hospitals within the Metropolis.

The statement however statement that the doctors will however continue to attend to inpatient and emergency cases.

The members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) on Thursday announced the partial withdrawal of their services due to the failure of government to put together a document spelling out their conditions of service.

The public sector doctors had given the government ample time to address their demands but the document is not yet ready.

In June, the General Assembly of the GMA extended the deadline to July 29, 2015 to allow them continue negotiations with government on their conditions of service.

With the one month expiration of the deadline, the withdrawal of their services to OPDs is the first stage of the plans to resign. In the second week, they will withdraw other services excluding emergency services.

The third week of the withdrawal will however include all services as well as emergency services.
This will culminate in the implementation of their final decision.
