Duase Youth Burn Tyres

Irate youth of Duase, situated on the main Kumasi Airport roundabout to Antoa road, Monday evening caused chaotic scenes in the area.

The youth staged, what can be described as, an impromptu demonstration over the poor road network in the area which impedes vehicular movement.

The angry youth blocked the main road and started burning car tyres which gave off thick plumes of smoke which spread over the entire community.

A death trap bridge at Duase, collapsed earlier in the day, totally cutting Duase and other communities in the area from Kumasi.

The sudden collapse of the bridge, reportedly, sparked the demonstration which attracted massive patronage from both the youth and the elderly.

Agitated people at Kenyase, Abirem and Antoa, among others, who would also be adversely affected by the collapsed bridge, joined the demonstration.

The paper gathered that tension rose to a boiling point in the above mentioned communities as the irate-looking people took the law into their hands.

They sang war songs and blocked the adjoining roads in the area, just to display their fury at the President Mahama-led NDC administration.

Even though the angry-people did not destroy any property, their mere presence on the road sent shivers down the spine of onlookers, the paper learnt.

Most of the angry people, reportedly, took the NDC administration to the cleaners as they hurled unprintable words at the presidency.

Reports indicated that armed policemen were eventually called onto the scene to restore law and order in the hitherto peaceful communities.

The Airport roundabout to Antoa road, it would be recalled, had been in deplorable state for so many years, causing problems for the people.

Incensed people in the area, some few years ago, embarked on a violent demonstration over the poor road network which was repulsed by the police.

Just last weekend, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, after travelling on the road, described it as dangerous and urged government to fix it immediately.

The death-trap bridge at Duase caved in thereby cutting the communities in the area from Kumasi, barely two days after Otumfuo had made his appeal.
