Doctors’ strike: NHIS cardholders should visit private and faith-based healthcare facilities.

Following the July 30, 2015 strike by medical doctors in the public sector and their ongoing engagement with government on their conditions of service, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is entreating all NHIS card holders who may be turned away from public health facilities to visit any of the NHIS-credentialed private and faith-based hospitals and clinics to access healthcare services.

A statement released by Selorm Adonoo, Head of Communications of the NHIA yesterday said NHIS cards are not only eligible in government establishments but can be used in the over 1,000 NHIS-credentialed private and faith-based healthcare facilities.

The statement said NHIS cardholders may also access healthcare at the 37 Military and Police hospitals in Accra and the many Health Centres and Community-based health Planning and Service (CHPS) compounds across the country.

“This arrangement is to ensure that subscribers of the NHIS continue to access healthcare services while the Ghana Medical Association (GMA)’s negotiations with government and strike persists,” the statement said The NHIA asked the public to call the NHIS Call Center on 054 444 6447 for enquires.
