Minister in charge of the Faith Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Madina Estates in Accra, Rev. Mark Mensah Boye, has underscored the need for parents to inculcate into their children the wearing of traditional costumes to portray the diverse rich cultures of Ghana.
He noted that Western mode of dressing has taken over the country’s rich culture and thus stressed the need for serious attention to restore the pride and dignity of Ghanaian culture.
Rev. Boye made these observations last Thursday, July 30, at the graduation and send-off ceremony in honour of the first head teacher of Faith Presby Basic School in Madina, Accra.
He entreated parents to ”check the dressing of their children and wards from the teenage level to their tertiary education.”
According to him, due to modern civilisation and cultural importation, Ghanaians have developed appetite for foreign tastes, stressing that has accounted for Western dresses taking centre stage.
For his part, former Public Relations Officer of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Mr. G.B.K. Owusu, advised pupils to be prayerful and take their academic work seriously in order to succeed.
He therefore appealed to parents to resist the urge to buy WAEC examination questions for their children.
Such a practice, he indicated, has dire consequences on pupils and on the country as a whole.
The out-going head teacher of the school, Mrs. Irene Kaako, who was appreciative of the honour done her, thanked the school board, the church, teachers, pupils and parents for their unflinching support during her tenure.
The pupils present during the occasion exhibited their talents in poetry, music and drama to the admiration of the gathering.
Each graduand and teacher was awarded a certificate for their hard work.
